Family Defender Institute’s Private School Safety Staff Handgun Course is an eight-hour classroom and live-fire program for employees and volunteers of North Carolina nonpublic schools. Conducted under the direct supervision of a certified National Rifle Association instructor or equivalent, the course meets and exceeds the annual training standard established by House Bill 193, enacted as Session Law 2025-81. FDI instructors also hold USCCA and other professional credentials. Training covers gun safety, appropriate firearm use, legal responsibilities, safe carry, marksmanship, and live-fire evaluation. Written school authorization, a valid concealed handgun permit, and required school procedures remain necessary under the law.
